Portfolio Galaxy

A year inside a solo software factory.

Each planet is a project; dust marks commits. Planet sizes use source-line counts only as a rough drawing scale. The small squares are worktrees and clones, and the dim outer belt is borrowed upstream code. Press play to replay the year.

14 projects 26,868 commits 2,337,567 lines of code 45 worktrees and clones 8 borrowed repos

What the numbers count: commits on every branch of my own repositories, and lines in tracked source files, leaving out vendored, generated, data and fixture folders. For forks, only the lines my own commits added count. Lines of code are a meaningless measure of progress: they say nothing about usefulness, quality or productivity. Here they only provide a rough visual scale. Commit counts record activity, not value delivered. This dated galaxy dataset collapses commits recorded in the same second, so its displayed commit totals can undercount.

Lines of code are a meaningless measure of progress. Here they only give the planets a rough visual scale; they say nothing about usefulness, quality or productivity.

Line counts are rough physical lines from tracked files, skipping vendored, generated and data folders. Code volume excludes Markdown and config, the published article HTML of the deployed sites, and the upstream code in forks (Conclave Voice counts only my own commits). During playback a planet grows in step with its share of commits, and worktree counts are as of 19 October 2026.

One person, a software factory

I’m building a software factory that one person can operate. Its agents investigate claims and publish through several outlets; its coding agents build much of the machinery behind it. My work is keeping that coherent as agents come and go: shared records, bounded authority, checked handoffs and evidence that something actually finished.

Building an agent fleet?

Start with the failures: agents sharing files, questions waiting in the wrong window and work surviving the end of a session.

SwarmQuarium: an underwater scene where fish are coding-agent sessions swimming above coral reefs, one reef per repository

Live on robderoo.com

SwarmQuarium

A month of my own coding agents, replayed as an aquarium. Every session is a fish, species by model; every repository is a reef; every commit is a pearl sinking into it. When a session hands off, its successor hatches and eats it. Turn on the sound and Swarm Radio plays along.

Handles are pseudonymised, times are dates only and spend is rounded. It all runs in your browser.

Swarm Radio: a month of coding-agent activity drawn as the form of a piece, one bar per day coloured by the kind of work, with the styles to play it in

Live on robderoo.com

Swarm Radio

The same month of my agents, composed into music. Every day is a section, the kind of work picks the chords, every line of agents that hands work on has its own theme, and an open question holds a suspended chord until it is answered. The same history always gives the same piece.

Redacted like the aquarium. Nineteen styles, from Jazz Reef to Coral House; tap a theme to follow one line of agents. It all runs in your browser.
